Designed by Ferdinand Levillain and produced in the Barbedienne foundry, it dates to about c. 1870. In decorative neoclassical form, this is a heavy piece, weighing approximately 1.622 kg. In very good condition, consistent with age and use, there is some rubbing to the central plaque which is copper and inside bronze, Stamped F. LEVILLAIN. The bowl is stamped F. Barbedienne, and the base boss has the capital letter P stamped in it. Ferdinand Barbedienne (10 January 1810 – 21 March 1892) was a French metalworker and manufacturer, who was well known as a bronze founder.
